He came to the United States in 1910 and settled in Big Timber, Montana. He spent the early part of his life in Sweet Grass County as a sheepshearer and working on ranches until he purchased the ranch in 1947 where he lived until he retired in 1961.
He was a veteran of World War I where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church and Sweet Grass American Legion Post No. 19.
